Me: "Do you have a gluten-free menu?"
Waitress: "No."
Me: "Do you know what on the menu doesn't have gluten in it?"
Waitress: "No."
Me: "Okay...I'll have an omelette."
Waitress: (Comes back after a few minutes) "Our egg mixture might have gluten in it. What about an egg white omelette?"
Me: "Egg mixture? Yeah, egg whites are fine."
Waitress: "Would you like toast or a bagel?"
Me: "Neither please."
Waitress: "Oh yeah, I forgot."
Me: In terrible/horrible/no good/very bad pain the rest of the night
Some places just don't get the importance of not cross-contaminating.
In better news, some GREAT gluten-free restaurants include:
-Cafe Rio & Cafe Paesan
They're delicious AND have many gluten-free items. Happiness.
