Becoming a Crocheter: Eternal Scarf

The finished product!  I made a short eternal scarf and really like how it turned out.
(The whole self-portrait thing isn't my thing, so this lovely manequin that I use to hold my necklaces is modeling it).
I think I'm going to try a longer, thinner one next time.  It could be fun, and I have to make a headband, of course.  What's your favorite thing to crochet?

Becoming a Crocheter: Woot!

So my bomb.com friend Mary Jane offered to teach me how to crochet.  We had so much fun, and we found success!  Look at what I've been doing!  The first one (Far right) started taking on funny shapes, so I'm on round two.  Maybe I'll make a scarf or an eternal scarf?  I'm just so glad it's not going in circles!

Someone's Help Wanted: Crocheting

Looking For:
Someone who lives close by
Who knows how to crochet
Who has a lot of patience with a dork like myself
It won't take long....I hope
(I'm doing something wrong, and the online tutorials aren't helping me figure it out what it is)
I'll make you dinner...and dessert...and love you forever :)
The end.

Becoming a Crocheter: Oh Boy

So things are improving, as you can see.  I can now get farther than the first chain, but why does everything I make go in circles?  I've tried over and over, watched different tutorials, enlisted the help of my mom, and no luck.  I don't want to make hot pads.  I want to make scarves!  I thought crocheting was going to be relaxing and perfect for road trips and such, but this is brutal.  AND my ball of yarn got in the knot of the century, and it took six hours in the car to untie half of it.  Yup, half of it.  Quitting never looked so good, but I've spent way too long in my efforts to get this, and I will beat it.  (I reserve the right to take that back if things continue).  Help please.

Becoming a Crocheter?

My senior year high school, I went to a Relief Society Service Auction.   Each person earned points by doing service beforehand, and once you got there, you could bid on receiving service from someone else (Using the points you earned by giving service).  I won a massage from a woman who was in massage school and a crochet lesson by a crochet genius.

I was pumped and went to my crochet lesson bright eyed and bushy tailed all ready to become a domestic diva...but it was awful.  I was awful, and we both knew it.  I felt bad wasting this poor woman's time.  I just couldn't get it.  I finally convinced her that I would practice at home, so she would let me go.  I never picked up the crocheting again, until last week.  Last week I saw Michelle's cute cute earwarmers, and I had the insatiable urge to make one myself.  I got my supplies, I watched the tutorials, and I began.
BUT, I'm starting to wonder if I made a really big mistake.  I thought crocheting would be fun.  I know, I know, insert, "What were you thinking?" here, but I did.  And now, I'm really really bad at it.  I've been trying for two hours now and nothing.  It shouldn't be this hard, right?  I have the chain stitch down, and I thought I was getting the single crochet, but it just doesn't look like the tutorial.  Does the picture look weird to you?  Help please.
