Becoming a DIYer

We have a window in our spare room that was feeling a little empty, so I made this pennant. I die cut using cardstock, the Epic 6 tool, and the nesting pennant dies. Then I strung them together with a thick string. I love the soft, summery look it adds, and since I am inept at sewing, this worked out slick! :)

So Landon Paul is a really handy human. We've been redecorating our place and were in need of a shelf, so he got to work. He cut the wood with a saw and did some detail work with a router.

Then he sanded, stained, and assembled.

And there you go! The final product! I confess, I can't stop staring at it. It just finishes the room off so well! The man has skills!

Becoming Christmassy Challenge: 2

I'm not a crazy. I swear, but...

this is my fourth batch of Christmas cards.

First I made these letterpress Christmas cards, and I loved them, but they didn't match our pictures, so I gave them away on the blog.

Then I got a code for 10 free Shutterfly cards...and then I got a code for 7 free My Publisher cards...

and then I got a free letterpress customized printing plate, so it's really not my fault. I just had to make them, too.

But I'm saving these guys for next year, I swear.

I used silver and red ink, and I'll glue a wallet size picture on the front. I heart letterpress!

Becoming a Decorator

Happy Halloween! This is our first Halloween in our new place, so we'll see if we get any trick-or-treaters! I'll show you some of our Halloween decorations today to get you in the mood for all the sugary fun!

I made some glittery pumpkins this year and really like how they turned out. I just spray painted them and then added some glitter spray and tied a ribbon on top. (Any tips on painting round surfaces? It was a little tricky).

When my family was in town, we made these cute turkeys for Thanksgiving.

I've put them around my house for now, but we'll be putting them on our Thanksgiving table soon enough!

We used the turkey die and the Epic 6to git 'er done. It was so fun and easy! Have you started decorating for the fall holidays? Have you made any decor yourself? Do tell!

We had such a fun time with my family this weekend. Their visits are always too short. We enjoyed some crazy rainy weather that kept us inside most of the time, so we made some Thanksgiving decor. We used the Epic Six, dimensional tree die (leaves), turkey silhouette die, and nesting maple leaf die to make some decorative confetti. Right now it's sprinkled on our end tables, but we'll also use it to decorate the Thanksgiving table this year. Have you ever tried die-cutting? I'm really becoming a fan! Also, become a follower! All the cool kids are doing it. :)

We wanted to put some reading quotes in the library, so I made this thang. I finally learned to use transfer tape with this tutorial. It's a little tricky, but I like the result. I'll have to practice up.

For this one, I just cut out the words on the light paper and stuck the black paper behind it. I'm not sure which way I like better, but it's fun to experiment.

Now they hang out on the bookshelves you can see here. It's such a relief to be moved in!

I went to CHA's craft trade show in Chicago for work this week and had a blast. I got to demo the L Letterpress and fell in love with it. The Craft Buds talked about it here (Don't you love my humidity hair? lol). Below I have some cards I made with the Epic 6. Are there any card makers out there?

Look at what Landon Paul has been building! He just needs to add some cabinet doors and stain it. The man has SKILLS. It's going to look great in our new place!

Landon Paul's convocation is TOMORROW, and he walks Friday! I can't even wait! I made this banner last night. I just cut blue circles, made the letters with the cricut, and tied them together with string. Have I mentioned I'm so excited?!?

Becoming a DIYer: Easter Blocks

I made these blocks for Easter on Saturday. Landon Paul cut the wood for me. Then I sanded the edges and got painting. Once it was dry, I put scrapbooking paper on top with glue dots. After that, I cut the letters out with my cricut.

I made Believe blocks for Christmas the same way. It's a fun project.

What fun things are you doing to get ready for Easter? I'd like to make a wreath, but I've never done that before...tips???

Becoming a DIYer: Corner Cupboard

Landon Paul is quite the craftsman, and he's going to teach me his skills! We went to Home Depot, got a bunch of wood, and now we're going to build this. I'm so excited! We don't have a pantry in our apartment, so we use these plastic shelves which work great but aren't exactly aesthetically pleasing. I'm really excited. Cross your fingers it doesn't end in disaster!

So I used shutterfly to make my mom a family photo calendar for Christmas. I used pics from throughout the year and matched them with the month that made sense (Graduation pics in April, Christmas pics in December, etc). It was fun to sift through the pics, and the madre was a fan of the final product. Don't you love it when it all works out? What DIY gifts did you give this year?

Becoming a DIYer: Proclamation Book

For Christmas this year, I made my dad a Family Proclamation book with picaboo. I put all the words to the The Family: A Proclamation to the World on the pages and added family pictures that matched. (e.g. The page with the phrase "wholesome recreational activities" had pics of us playing mud volleyball). He loved it! It was my first time using picaboo, and it was great. I also use shutterfly and snapfish. I get all of their promotional e-mails sent to my junk e-mail, and whoever has the best deal, gets used! Also, here are some pics of our Christmas adventures with my familia in Boise.
